High School Event Opportunity

Save the Date: 2nd Annual Visions Youth Conference to be Held Feb. 26

Visions is excited to announce the date of our second annual Visions Youth Conference, open to all high school students and designed to build community and inspire students to action.

The focus of this year’s conference is the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) disciplines with a variety of STEM-based workshops held throughout the day. To be held in Carmichael on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the all-day conference will also include keynote speakers, college representatives, performances, and lunch.

The reason for our selection of the STEM focus for our workshops is that STEM brings out the best in education: community partnerships, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences that are designed to help students master standards and prepare for our evolving workforce. Students will have the opportunity to explore STEM-related concepts, strengthen critical thinking, and develop problem solving and collaborative skills. We’re excited to invite you to come innovate, create, and compete with your classmates through a series of fun workshops!

The day will have multiple opportunities for students to connect with each other, Visions staff, and education members. Our aim is to create a sense of community and provide a positive environment that will motivate students to be stronger advocates for their education and their future.
  • Date: Wednesday, Feb. 26
  • Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Location: Christ Community Church, 5025 Manzanita Ave, Carmichael
  • Who: High School students, all Academies

Getting Ready for Report Cards - Repost

End of semester report cards and grades are on the horizon. I will be collecting report card progress (K-5) and grades (6-12) at our LP5 virtual meeting. LP5 begins on December 17th, so for many of you this won't be until after the winter break.

Here is how to prepare:

Grades K-5:
Remember, there are no real "grades" for K-5. Report cards just track progress through the grade level standards. In general: most students will be earning 2s for most categories,  a student working above grade level will earn 4s, categories not addressed yet will earn 1s, categories covered fully will earn 3s.
  • Download (or just view) sample report cards below. Look over the categories and see if you have any questions.
  • Decide if you would like to add optional effort grades and if so, have them ready to give me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Write up your overall comments to read to me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Have your progress grades ready to give me at our LP5 meeting.
  • You don't need to fill out the LP5 progress tab on the semester plan. The report card will count for that.
Grades 6-12:
  • Check in on your student's grades and progress, keep close track between now and our LP5 meeting.
  • Write up your overall comments and optional effort grades to give to me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Have your final grades updated in your Semester Plan for our LP5 meeting.

You can download/view samples here:
These are last year's samples, but I haven't been notified of any changes.
