Scholastic Book Fair

From the WIRE...

Scholastic Book Fair is THIS WEEK!

There is Snow Much to Read! Our annual Scholastic Book Fair is set to return to our Carmichael Resource Center this December. The fair will transform our Resource Center into an Arctic Wonderland, but if you can’t make it to the Resource Center to shop in person, there will be an option to shop online.

When & What
The Scholastic Book Fair will be open from Monday, December 2 through Friday, December 6. The fair is open to ALL Visions students from ALL academies.

Location & Hours
Visions In Education Resource Center @ 5030 El Camino Avenue, Carmichael. The fair is open:
Monday-Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m

To learn more about the fair and the various shopping/purchasing options, visit the Book Fair event page in the Wire.

Getting Ready for Report Cards

End of semester report cards and grades are on the horizon. I will be collecting report card progress (K-5) and grades (6-12) at our LP5 virtual meeting. LP5 begins on December 17th, so for many of you this won't be until after the winter break. I will repost this the first day of LP5.

Here is how to prepare:

Grades K-5:
Remember, there are no real "grades" for K-5. Report cards just track progress through the grade level standards. In general: most students will be earning 2s for most categories,  a student working above grade level will earn 4s, categories not addressed yet will earn 1s, categories covered fully will earn 3s.
  • Download (or just view) sample report cards below. Look over the categories and see if you have any questions.
  • Decide if you would like to add optional effort grades and if so, have them ready to give me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Write up your overall comments to read to me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Have your progress grades ready to give me at our LP5 meeting.
  • You don't need to fill out the LP5 progress tab on the semester plan. The report card will count for that.
Grades 6-12:
  • Check in on your student's grades and progress, keep close track between now and our LP5 meeting.
  • Write up your overall comments and optional effort grades to give to me at our LP5 meeting.
  • Have your final grades updated in your Semester Plan for our LP5 meeting.

You can download/view samples here:
These are last year's samples, but I haven't been notified of any changes.
